Around the corner
I met this man when I was walking around an affluent
area of Maadi. I was struck by the man's nobility,
despite his poor surroundings and lack of material
possessions. The interwoven nature of wealth and poverty
is something which interests me as an outsider living in
Egypt. I have mirrored this in the crisp fabrics beside
the weather-beaten face of this old man. The image begs
the question of how we would view the world if we were
in similar circumstances and if fate had dealt this man
a better hand, what would he look like to the outside
world?
