Artist's Statement

The hand of Fatima (commemorating Fatima Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad) is a significant symbol in Arabic culture. Sometimes referred to as Hamsa, it is used to protect against the bad eye. The hand and its belief in protection seemed particularly relevant for me to use in the painting as it is recognized and understood in many cultures, regardless of religion and language.

I like to use words in my paintings. The words chosen for this painting express how we share symbolic things across cultures. The feeling of love has no boundaries, and is something felt by all humans, regardless of religion, culture or race.
