Biography

Barbara elnimra Gerber is a free artist, painter/dancer performer from Switzerland living in Cairo, el-Darb el-Ahmar.

In 2013 I was deeply touched by a trip to north India and nearly lost my way. I had to go to Aswan, stay some days on felucca, breeze and “come back”…now I continue my embroideries with tiny beads and sequins, colorful and shiny improvisations which make you forget all the ugly things of life… I am dancing and painting as well.

2008 participation in “The Book”, Cairoatelier (symposium by Mohamed Abuelnaga)
2008 “The Garbage Cat” summer workshop for children from Darb el-Ahmar, we used wood and wire from garbage to construct cats and painted them.
2007 left Switzerland and moved to Darb el-Ahmar when life became too difficult for me. Now I do painting with poor children.
