Artist's Statement
“at the heart of it”
As I was standing in the midst of my materials
improvising in preparation of this work for the Caravan
exhibition a cross shaped up somehow dividing the
canvas’ space into four sepia brownish fields.
The energy from that sign lead immediately to the idea
of treating this powerful symbol as a main composition
element.
From another trial I had this octagonal Islamic star
cutout, what one usually finds as pattern on
tiles...etc. so I felt led to combine them into one
symbol of unity....then the title came up "at the heart
of it".
So they turned into that powerful symbol of a cross with
a hexagonal Islamic star at its center, populated with
silhouettes of people moving in brotherhood & harmony.
